Place Making

Foundation Housing works in partnership with our tenants to explore how making small positive changes to properties have a big impact on wellbeing. Place Making is a tenant-led initiative that seeks to enhance place, people and communities by identifying, prototyping and implementing changes that make our properties a better place to call home.

Case study: Hubert Street, Victoria Park

A highly successful place-making project at an eight-unit complex in Hubert Street, Victoria Park, is indicative of Foundation Housing’s commitment to engaging tenants in driving projects they believe will add value to their home and wellbeing. The donation-driven initiative delivered significant lifestyle improvements for tenants, including a new patio, outdoor pergola and greenery. Since completion, tenants have been sharing meals and inviting family to visit for the first time in years. This prototype venture has confirmed that place-making can have a positive impact in connecting residents to community while reducing tenancy breaches and inter-tenant conflict. It engages local businesses, councils and community groups in a collective approach to supporting vulnerable people in the community.
